Trailers - NCIS

Trailers- Blog

Trailer 1 - Inside Man

This movie is an example of a Crime and Drama with elements of Thriller. This is because it is filled with crime and dramatic music and many 'jump' bits. This would not necessarily be an action because there is no physical fighting - there is weapons but they are rarely used by the villain/main character. This is mainly crime because it is a Police and Criminal matter.

Narrative:  Unusually, the main character is the villain. The hero is the police force (and manager). This story is being told by the male who is very smart and has a strict plan. He holds a bank hostage and the police are all clueless but eventually his plan unwinds but there is no real happy ending.

Characters: The characters include the leader of the group who are robbing the bank, who tells the story at the beginning (Denzel Washington). Also, it includes the police force who is managed by Clive Owen.

Iconography: There is an iconic moment of when the man is talking to the camera, telling the audience about himself. As it is so unusual, people find it entertaining to watch a movie which is anchored by the villain in this situation.

Setting: This is set in the USA, in a bank.

Trailer 2 - 500 Days of Summer

This fits in the Romantic Comedy and Drama genre as it is about a romance which goes through many complicated turns, with humour and drama (towards the end and middle).

Narrative: This story is about a man (Joseph-Gordon Levitt) , who works at a card company, and is attracted to a woman (Zooey Deschanel) who plays the role of an indecisive assistant. These to fall in love and spend much time together until it all goes wrong and they break up, you would assume that they stay together for a happy ending but they break up and stay like that. It is very typical and fairytale all until the climax stage. It is shown in 500 days of Summer (the woman's name).

Characters: The characters are not too typical but it is about a man who is laid back and falls for a woman, however, the woman is feminine but does not take the role in a typical Rom-Com because the female character would be the one who is lovestruck - in this, it is the male lead. They go together as an average young couple who mess around and have fun.

Iconography: 'You should know... this isn't an love story' is the iconic line in this trailer because it is telling us before hand that it is not going to go well. Normally, it would be hidden but they have said it to appeal to people who want to see what happens.

Setting: This is office love, set in offices, bars, apartments, parks and Ikea to represent a couples activities - especially of this age.

Trailer 3- Olympus Has Fallen

This is typically an Action movie due to the violence and language. The trailer presents many guns and explosions, denoting violence.

Narrative: This is about a terrorist attack on the USA White House. An ex-agent, Banning is trapped in the building and is forced to rescue everyone - including the president and code holders which lead to attack the whole of USA and the countries near it.

Characters: A archetype president who is fearless and typically snobbish agents. The villain is also very typical with an eager assistant (female).

Iconography: 'Olympus Has Fallen' which is the title but also is said a number of times. 'Olympus' is code for the White House using words that the security agent would mostly likely use when describing the White House.

Setting: This is based in a hospital - filled with injured people and mainly a White House and the surrounding streets.
